Why you Afghanistan? What is it that the warmongers come to seek? They send their sons and daughters to make war and call it peace making. The Taliban, the French, Germans, British, Americans, Russians and Canadians too. What is it that you have that all come like vultures dropping from the sky?
Some years ago I offered help to an Afghan refugee who had escaped a Russian prison. He said he was a teacher and told about his father who had a few wives and traded in Persian and Afghani rugs. He told me that women were considered lowly, only good enough to have children. He did not think that women had value but that I was okay because I was with Amnesty International. He told me that in the mountains there is a sacred place where there is a large well with no bottom. This is where space ships come and go, he said. They all knew that a man called the father of Zoroaster (Zarathustra) – the holy one – was from there and that he later lived in Iran and is still known there as well as in Afghanistan. He said too that giants lived in the mountains of Afghanistan.
“Why, oh why, are they coming,” ask the Afghani people? “We are tired of wars. Tell us what you want here? Don’t kill anymore. We need peace.”
